Question:
Answer:

The Norwegian authorities recommend that Omega-3 fatty acids should constitute 1% of the energy in our diet2.

For a healthy adult with normal activity levels and energy requirement of 2000 kcal, this is equivalent to 2.2 g of Omega-3. This is the total amount of Omega-3, and includes both Omega-3 from vegetable and marine sources.

On an international level, there are several more recommendations. ISSFAL (the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids) recommend an intake of 500 mg of EPA and DHA per day in order to prevent heart disease1.
